SLAM!

MMW has a list of clubs that they let reserve show spots for, after having my car in the show this year it got me wondering why we don't reserve spaces for SLAM members?

If it can be done, who would be interested in getting a section reserved for SLAM members for next year?

Rich Detert,Bill Mabrey,Mike Munz and other SLAM members usually have a roped off area with a tent/canopy right at the corner at the end of show car row at entrance to car corral & swap meet. We had another spot on the other side behind the the registration tent. We had 14 spaces roped off with about 6 SLAM members. The trick is to be sure the cars in the JUDGED car show are parked at a NUMBERED spot.

I've seen a few members set up at the front corner but was told that space is reserved for Greg Knobe and his personal friends.

I was thinking of a space somewhere up front or around the registration tent just for SLAM, they do an award for groups that has the most members at the show and after seeing the groups mentioned at the awards ceremony, I realized that we have a lot more members that show up than any of them, we just don't get together at the show as a group.

I was also talking to a couple guys from FABO "forabodiesonly.com" about setting up a reserved space after finding out how many guys from that site was there from out of town. I think it would be better to see a large number of local guys set up together though. We would need to know in advance how many cars will be in the judged and non judged classes to make sure we have enough numbered spaces. I plan on entering entering a car in non judged and the Fish in the judged class again next year. The Fish surprisingly took first place at the show, now my son is hooked so I am told it has to be in the judged class next year.

I seen the your car there Devin, that was my sons puppy.

Greg and I have had that spot since they started having the car show part of Monster Mopar in the oval.
Greg always sets up his tent closest to the car corral/swap because he's always trying to sell something.
I set up my tent on the other end of our space. Greg's friends park down by him, my friends (Bill, Mike, etc) park by me.
This year Jim Campbell had painted "Knobbe Land" on the ground just south of the hotdog stand. LOL
Johns Auto Body set up on the other side of the hotdog stand.
We've been doing Monster Mopar for the last 25 years (since it started). We've been friends with everyone associated with running the show since before it ever existed.
We just know sooo many people that it's hard to have enough space for everyone to park there.
Usually we end up parking two deep even for the judging (i.e. space 385 and 385A).
Jim Campbell understand and it's not an issue with the judging.

It seems like everyone would like to park there with us, but unless Jim want to allocate us more room its just not possible.
If the hotdog stand wasn't parked where it was we would have had more room for people to park with us, but the vendor argued with Jim that he had to be in "THAT" exact spot.

People like to park with other people they know, when you get a large group it just takes some coordinating and planning to make it all work out.

Jim Campbell is the man to talk to about reserving space for a club.
I've got his phone numbers if someone wants to contact him.

I'm from "out of town" but this is my main Mopar site. If I can get away from work next year i would love to bring the Road Runner down and meet some of you guys. That is if you will talk to an outsider ;)
